Pure O & Rumination
The loop usually starts with a question that feels both urgent and answerable. Did I mean it that way. What if it is true. So you go looking for the memory, the feeling, the one piece of evidence that would settle it, and for a moment something clicks into place. Then the doubt returns slightly rephrased and you begin again. From the outside, nothing has happened at all.
Pure O is not a separate condition. It is shorthand for OCD in which most of the compulsions happen internally: reviewing, analyzing, mentally arguing, silently reassuring yourself, checking how a thought feels. Because there is nothing to see, these compulsions are easy to miss and hard to interrupt.
What a printable Pure O workbook actually asks you to do
Everything in this collection is ERP-informed. ERP stands for exposure and response prevention, the approach of making room for an intrusive thought without carrying out the compulsion that usually follows it. On paper, that mostly means slowing the loop down enough to see it while it is running.
- Rumination logs for catching the loop in progress, including the trigger and what you were hoping to work out
- Response-prevention practice aimed at mental compulsions: reviewing, mental checking, and self-reassurance
- Imaginal exposure exercises and written uncertainty scripts
- Structured daily pages, so you are not deciding from scratch what to do each time you sit down
If you would rather read first, our guide on how to stop ruminating explains why analyzing feels so productive, and the article on breaking the reassurance-seeking habit covers the out-loud version of the same loop.
Choosing between the two workbooks here
The Pure-O & Rumination Workbook — $11.99
The core 44-page workbook for mental compulsions, organized around making the loop visible: rumination logs, response-prevention practice, imaginal exposure, and uncertainty exercises. Choose this one if what you want is a framework you can work through at your own pace, in your own order.
The Overthinking Workbook — $10.99
A 70-page, 30-day program built around ten-minute daily pages, with a Week Zero crash course, weekly reviews, and a built-in taper. It also includes a ten-second flowchart for telling rumination apart from ordinary thinking, and a protocol for night-time spikes. Choose this one if you would rather be handed today's page than design your own practice.
Both arrive as print and fillable editions of the same material, so you can write by hand or type, and both include a cut-out sheet of eight discreet pocket cards with no branding on them. Some people use both: one for the framework, the other for daily structure.
Questions people ask first
Is this therapy?
No. These are educational self-help materials, not therapy, diagnosis, or treatment, and they are not a substitute for professional care. If you are struggling, please speak with a qualified mental health professional who can assess your situation properly.
Do I need a diagnosis to use one?
No, and nothing here will give you one. The material is written for people who recognize the pattern of intrusive doubt followed by mental compulsions, whether or not it has been formally assessed. Working out what you are actually dealing with is a job for a clinician.
What do I actually receive?
A PDF, linked by email straight after checkout. Nothing is posted to you. You can print it at home as often as you like, or fill it in on a tablet or computer using the fillable edition.
Can I use this alongside therapy?
Many people do, and some bring completed pages to sessions. If you are already working with a therapist, it is worth showing them the workbook first so that the two approaches do not pull in different directions.
