Who Writes This

Everything on this site is written by one person. My name is Julian, and I make the workbooks and write the articles at OCD True or False.

Why I write about this

I am not a clinician. I am not a therapist, a psychologist, or a doctor. I want that on the record at the top of the page rather than buried at the bottom, because it changes how you should read everything else here.

What I have is first-hand experience of OCD and of doing exposure and response prevention work. The workbooks exist because the material I wanted did not seem to exist: not a clinical textbook, and not a page of soothing generalities, but something structured enough to actually work through on a difficult evening. I made the pages I needed, then made them properly so other people could use them too.

Lived experience is a real thing to bring to this, and it is also a limited one. My experience of OCD is mine. It is not a substitute for an assessment, a treatment plan, or a clinician who can see your particular situation. If you are struggling, a qualified professional is the right person to talk to, and I would rather you did that than read more of my website.

How the articles are written

  • I write from ERP principles, not from opinion. Exposure and response prevention is the approach with the strongest evidence base for OCD. Where I describe how it works, I am describing the established method, not inventing one.
  • I check the clinical claims against real sources. Primarily the International OCD Foundation, the National Institute of Mental Health, and the published ERP literature.
  • I do not diagnose, and I do not tell you what you have. No article or workbook here can tell you whether you have OCD. That is a clinician's job.
  • I do not promise outcomes. You will not find claims on this site that a workbook will cure, fix, or eliminate anything. I do not know that, and anyone who says otherwise is selling harder than I am willing to.
  • I correct things. If something here is wrong, tell me and I will change it. My address is below and a real person reads it.

What the products are

The workbooks are printable, ERP-informed educational materials. They are structured exercises you fill in yourself: exposure ladders you build, trackers you keep, prompts that ask you questions. They are not therapy, not treatment, and not personalized to you. A lot of people use them between sessions, or while sitting on a waiting list, or alongside work with a therapist who knows they are using them.
